






SMM News: recently, South32 has appointed Karen Wood as its new chairman, Karen Wood will also become one of Australia's most famous female directors. Karen will succeed David Crawford, on April 12, 2019, when David will retire as chairman and non-executive director. Karen Wood joined the South32 Board in November 2017 as an independent non-executive director and a member of the Board's Remuneration Committee, the Sustainable Development Committee and the nomination and Governance Committee. With a wealth of senior experience in resources, she served as BHP's executive team from 2001 until her retirement in 2014.

According to the South32 website, Karen Wood has a wealth of experience as a senior manager in the resources industry. During her career, she has held a variety of senior global positions at BHP Billiton, including President of the people and President of Public Affairs. With a strong legal and governance background, Karen Wood joined BHP Billiton as Group Secretary in 2001 and previously served as General legal adviser and Company Secretary for Bonlac Foods Limited. She retired from BHP in 2014. Karen Wood has also served as a member of the acquisition Committee (Australia), the Business Regulatory Advisory Group of the Federal Government of Australia and the Business Advisory Group of the Australian Securities and Investment Commission.
